Native Americans, also known as American Indians, Indians, Indigenous Americans and other terms, are the inherent peoples of the United States. There are over 500 federally recognized tribes within the US. These groups of people were living in America before America was America. Long before the white man came from Europe. They are very proud of their heritage and respectful of the Indian culture.
I had the occasion to watch a long standing tradition called the ”Pow Wow” ceremony involving feasting, singing, and dancing. It is a social gathering of the American Indian. The “Pow wow” is set up in a large circle with the center used for dancing. The dancing is without partners the dancers are moving to the beat of the drum. They had colorful beautiful costumes with feathers and bells. Food is also a part with such items a fried bread fish cooked over an open fire and many other foods. Many booths surround the area with jewelry, souvenirs, arts and crafts, beadwork, and leather items
Many Pow wows are held throughout the country at different times. The one I went to in Seattle lasted three day and is held every year.
